Great Style but Garbage Quality, 10 Jun. 2015

It looks fabulous, I was very pleased when I received mine and can understand why so many new owners are leaving rave reviews, but, beneath the sleek exterior, cost-cutting design decisions mean that it is not as reliable as it looks.

Mine let me down badly on my first outing. Carrying regular clothes and sundries for a short trip, with a weight well within the guidelines, the extended handle simply snapped off during normal use. I was very surprised.

I have included a photo showing that the extending handle is attached merely by small screws in molded plastic, no metal rings or plates to distribute the pressure. Terrible design, this is something that a suitcase absolutely has to get right.

This is the sort of problem that is likely to emerge at the worst possible time: when you are trying to get somewhere. If your extended handle breaks, you have to stoop to use the main handle instead, which can be very awkward. Worse, as you can see in one of my included photos, it exposes a potentially dangerous metal rod that could cause problems when you try to check-in your luggage, you may need to find some way to tape it down.

Hauptstadtkoffer have a website but the support section is not available in English. At this point, I wish I had paid the extra forty or fifty quid and bought a more reliable brand. Very disappointing because, again, it does look terrific.

I normally use Samsonite but was disappointed at how quickly the wheel on my large suitcase started to play up. Tried this one and it’s superbly built and love the colour. Never have to check if I’ve got someone else’s case by mistake.

Not robust enough., 18 July 2014

Nice looking case with good capacity and easy to move around on its 4 wheels.
However I am not impressed with the build quality, surely a case like this should be robust enough all over to stand up to the treatment experienced in transit through an airport’s baggage handling system? The lock on mine was damaged on its first flight!
