A good value, functional bag for the 1-2 night away business traveller, 28 Jan. 2015

    Howard (London, UK) –

I’ve needed a laptop roller for some months now with 2-3 times a month overnight business travel. Rucksack was becoming a drag and regular carry on roller cases don’t really look ideal when visiting clients. Needed something business like and briefcase like that would take the laptop, take overnight gear, ease my shoulder and most importantly have wheels.

I agonised over the purchase of this for a number of weeks on and off, then an upcoming set of 4 rapid business trips pushed me over the edge to get it. I have lusted after the similar Pro DLX 4 Rollers over that time, which are about double the price on Amazon. The DLX4 roller is a notch above this, no question, I particularly liked the shoulder strap on the smaller of the two versions and the locks, plus the leather handles. This bag does not have that. But the issue with that one was very little clothing space – I usually need to store 1 night of gear but sometimes 2. So the smaller DLX4 was not ideal, and the large DLX4 roller (17.3″) did not have the shoulder strap and was quite a bit heavier.

I was willing to spend the money on the more expensive one but, to be blunt, aside from materials, is not much different really to the larger Pro DLX4. So I took the punt on this after seeing the smaller DLX4 and this one in an Airport shop (they are difficult to find)

Prime delivered it next day, and it is a smart functional bag, fairly light weight. It doesn’t look oversized or “overfat” like some cases of this kind do. It’s anonymous in design (good). I tend to travel paperless so I simply need laptop storage, overnight clothes, sometimes some fitness gear to get some exercise, and a few other bits and bobs like power adapters and a couple of phones. There is a front pocket with zip (smallest) – presumably for passports etc, a “bits and bobs” section with zip (phones etc) , a laptop section with zip and the clothing section.

The extending handle feels solid enough and is comfortable for me and I walk quick racing about airports (6’1″)

Minus Points: I don’t like the velcro wrap on the handles, it’s unecessary and faffy to set and undo. The DLX4s had much nicer handles without this.

I’m due to do some European travel for 3 days in a few weeks and I fully expect it to handle that

Overall I’m pleased with it, I’d have liked the smarter DLX4 but I think in practice this will be ideal at half the cost – I’ll get over it 🙂

Good price as well, good 20 pounds lower than retail.

Superb alternative to the Wenger Patriot 2 Roller bag – fits 17.3″ laptops., 30 Oct. 2014

I ordered the SAMSONITE “GuardIt” roller case to replace of my old model Wenger Patriot (which I owned for 10 years before it finally fell apart with broken zips amongst other issues). The SAMSONITE GUARDIT ROLLER has very similar features to the Wenger – plenty of pockets, and a TABLET pocket too (for up to a 10″ tablet device”). Too early to say if the Samsonite will last me 10 years, but at least my 17″ laptop fits in the Samsonite bag. Having owned and LOVED my old model Wenger Patriot case, I decided to initially order the *new model* WENGER PATRIOT 2 expecting the same level of quality and versatility – HOWEVER the new WENGER PATRIOT 2 is really disappointing – and most importantly my 17″ laptop DID NOT fit in the new design WENGER bag (with the day case removed). Wenger had made small changes to pockets, internal gussets etc. making the bag completely useless for my needs, so I looked for an alternative that would hold the larger laptop. FYI – my laptop measures 415mm x 275mm x 35mm (W x D x H) – and this FITS SNUGLY and securely into the Samsonite GuardIT roller bag. Hopefully, this will live up to high expectations from a quality brand like Samsonite. Fingers crossed.

Good, but it hasn’t lasted., 3 Oct. 2015

I’ve had this bag for some time now. At first I was very happy. The layout is good, allowing space for a laptop and accessories in the front pocket with quite a lot in the back. The two front pockets are also good. It’s.quite light when empty, which is good.

However, build quality isn’t great. Having used it to travel with every day for the best part of a year, it’s now really quite worn out. The handle screws have been loose since day . The plastic under the handle is now coming off. The front zip has split away from the stitching, and other zips now don’t open smoothly.
